This photo was taken at 9:44:04 PM on October 10, 2024 from the Northwestern side of Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan. The geomagnetic storm which occurred this night is the strongest I have ever seen the aurora. Since my first semester of classes at NMU in 2022 I have become a bit obsessed with catching the northern lights, especially once I got my first DSLR camera in the summer of 2023. This night was about the sixth or seventh time I’ve seen them now (most times they have been very weak and dim), but I had finally properly figured out how to dial in my camera’s settings to properly capture them in photo. The photos I took that night, displayed in the aurora category, are the photos I am currently most proud of. Despite how difficult it can be to be patient and hunt down the aurora, it is well worth the challenge and is certainly an unforgettable experience.
